November 7 - December 11, 2003 Exhibition: Thinking Green, Visualizing Sustainable Living. The Gallery at Marygrove College Department of Art.

Facilitated by Vibeke Schroder and assisted by Nicole Stephan, this workshop took place in collaboration with the Franklin Wright Settlement, a community center on the East Side of Detroit. The youth participants first brainstormed around the concepts of green and mapping. Keeping the concepts in mind, the youth then explored and photographed the surrounding area and made note of important sites. The youth then created a large Green Map collage using drawing, photographs and Green Map icons. To cap the end of the project, participants applied their new passion and planted trees and shrubs at the community center. Multiple color copies of the map were created for the center, and the project will be featured in the upcoming Franklin Wright Settlement newsletter. October 21, 28, 30, 2003 Community Green Map Workshop #2

The Detroit Green Map team presented to the conference along with the Traverse Bay Bioregional Green Map. The power-point presentation, prepared by Vibeke Schroder, included a summary and photos of the years work, along with example Green Map sites in Detroit. A Green Map start-up kit was prepared by Nick Kothari that encouraged conference attendees to start their own map projects. This will be soon used by the international Green Map system. The participants of the workshop were diverse youth volunteers (from Detroit as well as the suburbs), working together on a housing remodel that will become a emergency shelter and a green building. The workshop, facilitated by Greg Vendena and assisted by Vibeke Schroder, began by discussing the concept of green and by exploring vacant lots around the area. The youth then divided in teams and explored sections of the neighborhood, creating draft maps. The teams then compiled the results on one large map of the neighborhood. Detroit Summer is interested in supporting additional youth Green Maps. July 14, 15, 2003 Community Green Map Workshop #1

The EARTH WALK, organized by Dante Espinoza, was a 7 mile walk across vacant spaces that were revealed to be beautiful green spaces full of landmark-sized trees, herbal medicine, and wildlife. The walk included several locations that could become greenmap sites and ended at the Detroit ECO-FAIR. At the ECO-Fair, Greenmappers Nick Kothari and Chris Pomodoro unveiled a huge interactive canvas map of Detroit, inviting fair attendants to nominate potential sites right on the map! This same map has made its way to several events. The EARTH WALK was the first fundraiser and event for the Detroit Green Map. June 7, 2003 Earth Walk Detroit / Eco-Fair

A wall-sized map and site nomination forms were installed at the Boggs Center to Nurture Community Leadership, host organization for the Adamah Network.
