The Story

Hi everyone! Do you want to walk across Detroit to Green Spaces and Sustainability?

Listen to my story.

When I was a child, raised in the middle of the Sequoia Redwoods, I used to walk through great fields. When I moved to the suburbs I started to miss the woods and fields. All my life I have strived to find the Green spaces around me to get that childhood feeling back. I explore maps and land near me to find Green space. In my younger years I found fields a great place to satisfy this need. I sadly watched all the fields in my suburb disappear. They turned into malls. I came to Detroit, looked for Green spaces, and found them all over. Houses were abandoned, torn down, and turned into empty spaces.

One day I yearned to take a walk in some open space. In talking with my friends, Kevin and Jacob, we decided to walk across Detroit through all the vacant land, like we would when we were kids. So I have devised a plan with the help of my friends to give everyone the opportunity to experience the vacant land of Detroit. This is a chance to see the green projects that have been going on in Detroit. We planned a route from F.A.R.M. (Foundation for Agricultural Resources in Michigan) that ends up at the old Detroit Train Depot. With this vehicle, people and community organizations can have a venue to express how they would affect Detroit’s open spaces.
